About the Role
A skilled and motivated Sound and Light Technician is sought to join the Performing Arts team. The role involves the maintenance, technical operation, and overall management of the school’s theatre spaces, including the Main Auditorium and the Black Box Theatre. Responsibilities require hands-on technical expertise, proactive problem-solving, and collaboration with staff, students, and external community groups.
Key Responsibilities
- Overseeing the daily maintenance of the Main Auditorium and Black Box Theatre to ensure performance readiness.
- Reporting technical deficiencies requiring specialist support and coordinating repairs with the contracted provider.
- Managing and operating sound and lighting systems during events, rehearsals, and performances.
- Coordinating with event organizers to determine technical requirements for lighting and sound.
- Supporting set and prop construction for the Performing Arts department
- Designing and implementing lighting and sound plots for school productions and events.
- Maintaining an up-to-date inventory of technical equipment, ensuring proper care and storage.
- Overseeing the daily upkeep of grand piano(s) in the performance areas
- Providing technical assistance for non-arts events, subject to availability
- Managing shared equipment usage with external groups and agencies, ensuring accountability and care.
Collaboration and Community Engagement
Regular collaboration is expected with Performing Arts teachers, as well as with community groups using the school's facilities. Professional networking with technicians in similar roles is encouraged to promote the sharing of best practices and innovation.

Qualifications and Experience
A high school diploma is required, while a BFA in Technical Theatre is preferred. A minimum of two years of experience working with sound and/or lighting systems in a performing arts setting is essential. Training in Occupational Health & Safety (OH&S) standards relevant to construction and theatre environments is highly desirable.

The successful candidate must demonstrate proficiency in the safe and effective operation of theatrical and construction equipment. Strong collaboration skills, punctuality, professionalism, and the ability to work independently are essential.
